A Preliminary
survey of the butterfly fauna of Pakitza, Parques Nacional del Manu,
Perú, with an estimate of his species richness. Nº 40.1991 pp. 1-19.
We collected 560 butterfly species in 200 field-hours during September 1989 al Pakitza, a biological station in the reserved zone of Parque Nacional del Manu, Madre de Dios, Peru. These species are listed with first dates of capture. Sight records and species collected by others are also listed, giving a total of 616 species. We modify a Michaelis-Menten type equation for estimating species richness. Our data show a close fit to this model, which predicts a fauna of 905 species at Pakitza.
