Contribución al conocimiento de los Boideos peruanos. (Boidae, Ophidia, Reptilia).21:1-51.

The specimens here studied belong to two species and five subspecies of the Family BOIDAE: Eunectes murinus Linnaeus, from the vicinity of Iquitos (Dpto. Loreto). Carallus caninus Linnaeus, Pucallpa, Ucayali River (Dpto. Loreto); Huanuco and Chanchamayo (Dpto. Junín). Corallus enydris enydris Linnaeus, Pacaya River an affluent of Puinahua Ucayali (Dpto. Loreto). Corallus enydris cookii Gray, Huanuco and Chanchamayo (Dpto. Junín). Epicrates cenchria cenchria Linnaeus, Iquitos (Dpto. Loreto); Tingo María (Dpto. Huanuco); Satipo and Colonia of Perené (Dpto. Junín); Pichari Camp zone lower Apurimac (Dpto. Apurimac). Boa constrictor constrictor Linnaeus, Iquitos; Pucallpa, Ucayali River (Dpto. Loreto); Rioja; Lamas and Tarapoto (Dpto. San Martín). Boa constrictor ortonii Cope, Trujillo (Dpto. La Libertad); Chanchamayo (Dpto. Junín).

Corallus caninus Linnaeus, is the first record for Perú.

Concerning the Key, only Peruvian specimens have been taken into, consideration as well as references to Schmidt a Walker, Jr.

Tables of species and subspecies with more than two specimens, have been prepared in order to compare the size number of scales.

Illustrations of subspecies Epicrates cenchria cenchria Linnaeus have been made, only to indicate situation of head, ventrals and subcaudal scales.

Within the limite of Peruvian territory there are more species in eastern, central and northern Perú.

The map indicate the localities where the species and subspecies of the Peruvian Boideos has been found. In addition, the specimens belong to the following institutions: Museo de Historia Natural “Javier Prado”, Instituto Nacional de Salud, Zoológico de Barranco and several Schools of the capital. Finally the specimen cited by Schmidt and Walker, Jr.

As for subspecie Boa constrictor imperator Daudin and specie Tropidophis toczanowskyi Steindachner the author gives only the descriptions of the work bye Boulenger and Stull respectively.

It is important to call the attention about the tremendous amount of Herpetological material sent abroad without a careful control of the Dirección del Servicio Forestal y Caza of the Peruvian Government. At the present time many species are almost extinct.
