Protozoarios de las aguas de villa con la descripción de tres nuevas especies.
19:1-24. 3 lám.
A protozoological survey of Villa lagoon and
surrounding canals has been attempted, to fulfill as a principal
objetive the description of the most common species of protozoo
which occurs in its waters.
40 genera with 52 species have been observed, but only, 11 species
of Mastigophora (21.2%) representing 6 genera and three families;
6 species of Sarcodina (11.5%) representing 6 genera and 4 families;
and 18 species of Cilata (34.6%) representing 14 genera and
10 families, have been studied.
The cilates were the most commonly encountered protozoa, both
in number of species and number of individuals. Chilodontopsis
gibberum n. Sp. Trichotaxis rubentis n. sp. and
Trichotaxis villaensis n. sp. are here described as
new species.
All of the species in question are new records for Peru, excepting
Paramecium aurelia.
An attempt has been made to obtain some information about the
ecology of these protozoa. The Mastigophora are frequent in
Summer as well as Ciliata and Sarcodina.
