Contribución al conocimiento de la distribución geográfica del género Schistocerca/i>
(Acriciddae, Orthoptera) en el Perú. 17:1-20. 7 lám.
In certain places of the Peruvian territory (Coast, Sierra and Forest) occurs four species of Acrididae belonging to the genus Schistocerca STAL. One of which produce damage to cultivated plants as well as the no cultivated ones.
The most dangerous so far as the Agriculture is concerned, is the gregarian and migratory Schistocerca paranensis BURM. The other three close related species: S. interrita SCUDD., S. australis SCUDD. and S. flavofasciata DE GEER are not so dangerous due to its reduced number.
The distribution of these species depend upon Climate and Biotic factors, among them the temperature, humidity and plant communities respectively. For instance S. interrita occur in the Coastal range, S. paranensis appears in some interandean valleys and S. australis is confined to the rain forest and even to the Oriental range of the Andes (“Ceja de la Montaña”).
S. flavofasciata has been found only in one locality (Shumba, Dept. of Cajamarca).
