Up to date, only one species of Porphyra is a web known along the Peruvian coast: Porphyra columbina. This is a common species on surf - washed rocks and is used as food in dry or fresh conditions. Recent collections have revealed 3 additional species in our coast: P. pseudolanceolata, P. tenera and P. thuretii; their morphology, vegetative structure, reproduction, habitat, geographical distribution and illustration are presented in this study.
